3 Ways to Fix Missing Dimension Input While Drawing in AutoCAD Architecture

If you’re using AutoCAD Architecture and no longer see dimension input while drawing lines or shapes — you’re not alone. Many users report that the dynamic input fields (those little white boxes showing live dimensions) disappear suddenly, especially after software updates, changes in system variables, or third-party software installs like Adobe Acrobat.

What’s the Problem?

Typically, while drawing in AutoCAD Architecture, dimensions appear near your cursor, letting you type exact lengths and angles. However, in some cases:

• No dynamic input box shows while drawing

• You can’t type distances manually

• Selecting a line doesn’t display its length or grip details

• Dimension previews no longer appear in real time

This usually happens when certain system variables are disabled — or their values are accidentally changed by external software.

Fix 1: Enable DYNMODE (Dynamic Input)

AutoCAD controls dynamic dimension input using the DYNMODE system variable. If this is set to 0 or a negative number, the feature is disabled.

Here’s how to turn it back on:

1. Type DYNMODE in the command line and press Enter

2. Type 3 and press Enter again

This enables both pointer input and dimension input, restoring real-time coordinate and length tracking.
